Join Kids+Architecture for a morning of sketching in one of Houston’s newest parks surrounded by the theater district’s eclectic architecture.

The Lynn Wyatt Square for the Performing Arts, a new cultural venue and park surrounded by Jones Hall, Alley Theater, Bayou Place and the Bank of America Financial Center opened last year. The square includes green spaces, curving walkways, a water feature, amphitheater and rotating public art. Surrounded by the Alley Theater’s Brutalist architecture, the modern yet classic design of Jones Hall and the gothic-inspired Bank of America Center there is plenty to draw inspiration from. 

The morning will begin with an architect-led tour by Daniel Kornberg, Principal, HarrisonKornberg Architects and a representative of Houston First around the park exploring the architecture and landscaping before breaking up into small groups with architects to hone your sketching skills.

Additional information about the class:

  • This is an outdoor class, so dress appropriately for the weather.
  • Students will work in small groups with architects to learn and develop their sketching techniques.
  • A sketch book, pencils, bottle of water and a snack will be provided for registered students. Students and parents can choose to bring their own materials. Adults are welcome to participate and parents are encouraged to stay for the class.
  • Parking options include metered street parking and parking garages in the area.

Please plan to arrive early to allow time to park and check-in. Class will conclude at noon. We encourage family and friends to explore the park and surrounding areas after class.
