Review of trigonometry, forces (general definitions, force
resolution, force addition), moments and couples, stresses and
strain/Hooke's Law, free body diagrams, equilibrium, loads and
reactions, truss analysis, method of joints and sections, tributary
loads.
Saturday, June 16, 2007 | 9:00 am - 7:00
pm
Geometry of sections, load, shear and bending moment diagrams,
general beam design theory, design of structural members in wood,
steel and concrete. Also review of general structures mock
exams.
Sunday, June 17, 2007 | 9:00 am - 7:00
pm
Long span structures, foundation systems, general lateral
load-resisting strategies, wind and seismic loads, and review
lateral forces mock exam.
David J. Thaddeus, AIA is an Associate Professor of Structures
& Architectural Design at the College of Architecture at the
University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He holds degrees in
Structural Engineering and Architecture and has been teaching
Structures and Design since 1985.
