Architecture Matters exists to provide a forum for critical interaction, and a stimulus for critical dialogue regarding architecture and urban design in Houston.

Architecture Matters exists to create a place for those who wish to discuss the world as it is being made around us, to express thoughts and feelings, delights and disappointments, satisfactions and frustrations.

Architecture Matters exists because there are few public venues in this very large city for architectural or design criticism, either on a professional or more general level.

Architecture Matters exists because Houston lacks an interactive forum for critical thinking and dialogue that is open and accessible to all who care about design in the city. AIA Houston has a desire to foster and nurture this interaction. Thus, the matters of design can be found and discussed here, and all in the community can air their opinions as often as they like.

Architecture Matters exists to enable Houstonians to bring their thoughts to an audience and react to those of others. A critical stance is something a great many people take repeatedly; a way to facilitate a community conversation is the part that is missing. This site is a step toward enhanced dialogue, a place that encourages the public as well as design professionals to speak their minds.

Awareness that Architecture Matters is one of the most significant things that architects can share with the public. The more everyone thinks about the quality of what goes up in the city, whether delightful, abysmal, or somewhere in-between, the more likely everyone is to expect and demand better.

What is delight and outrage?
